Hannibal firefighters train to save lives during traffic emergencies
Firefighters with the Hannibal Fire Department had a special training session early Wednesday evening,
The department was able to experience a hands-on approach conducting night drills including extrication.
Two demo cars were on the scene of the mock accident where the firefighters were given real life accident scenarios.
Due to the time change and evening approaching quicker, HFD says a lot of their calls happen when it's dark.
"A lot of our events are in the evening of course so that is another component of it. Car technology is changing all the time there is new safety factors which is good but some of the safety factors make it more difficult for us getting into a vehicle," says HFD Training Coordinator John Baker.
HFD says the importance of these drills is to continue to educate their team and serve the community the best that they can.
