Hannibal demolition delayed, new contractor steps in

The property at 213 Broadway in downtown Hannibal isn't coming down quite yet.
According the Hannibal Courier Post, the Hannibal City Council decided on Tuesday to hire Roberts Demolition and Roll-Off of Center, Missouri for the demolition..
The building has been deemed structurally unsound and in danger of collapse.
Century Used Brick of St. Louis was originally given the job in July for a low bid of $5,000. However, the company contacted the City of Hannibal on December 6 requesting an additional $6,000.
An official with Century Used Brick claimed the request for a higher fee came after the company re-evaluated the demolition and did not feel $5,000 would cover expenses.
The City of Hannibal did not honor the request for a higher fee and gave Century Used Brick until noon on Tuesday to begin demolition, otherwise the City would award the job to the next-lowest bidder.
Roberts Demolition and Roll-Off will now handle the demolition for its bid of $17,500.
The city hopes to set a starting date for demolition soon.
