Guilty verdict in Rushville carnie slaying

Jared Staake

A jury found a man guilty Thursday in the death of a carnival worker at the Schuyler County Fair, the Schuyler County State's Attorney said.

The 12-person jury found Jared Staake, 21, guilty of second-degree murder.

Staake was charged in the July 2 stabbing death of Michael Box, 33, of Dyersburg, Tenn.

Box died at a Rushville hospital after an altercation near the sleeping quarters of the fairgrounds.

The jury deliberated for one and a half hours Thursday bringing the four-day trial to a close.

Staake faces between four and 20 years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 13.
