Groundbreaking for past musicians memorial

It was a nice beginning of the day before storms rolled in for the 6th annual Keokuk Musicians Memorial Concert.

This concert is held to remember musicians in the Keokuk area who have passed away.

This year was a little different though.

In the past they played on the river front.

This year they were at Rand Park's new pavillion.

Bands played throughout the day starting at 11 Saturday morning.

Also this year, they broke ground for the memorial that will be built at Rand Park.

There will be a medallion with surrounding bricks with the names of the musicians who have died.

Even though there were a few changes, the message behind the concert still stays the same.

Chairman Mike Brooks says, "We're looking forward to doing this every year. Hope more people get involved with it. Hope it gets bigger and bigger for our community, for our town, for the past musicians, for all our musicians. All of our musicians are donating their time. Everyone's doing this for free. We're just out here having a good time."

They hope to have the memorial done by September.
