Giving Back and Looking Forward: Mike Smith Jump Starts an Eventful Summer

The best high school basketball player ever to come out of Northeast Missouri is a man with a lot on his plate right now.

Van-Far alum Mike Smith was back home this week for his 2nd Annual Basketball Camp. But that's just the start of a busy, busy summer that includes a new bride and a new professional opportunity by way of Belgum....

Mike Smith: "Just seems like yesterday I was in here playing for the District Championship. God has blessed me with some great things throughout this life. I'm getting married in July to my beautiful Fiancee Katie out of Edina. So I'm looking forward to it and can't wait until that day"

Marriage isn't the only change on Mike Smith's summer horizon. After seeing his shot the NBA D-League last all of one practice due to a catastrophic wrist injury; the two-time KHQA High School Player of the Year is back in the game....

Mike Smith: "Actually, I just signed a contract, three or four days ago. I am going to Belgium to play in the Top League there. So I'm excited to get back into basketball and I just had to keep my faith. I have a lot of supporting cast to help me. My Family. My Brother and Sister. Right now I am getting back into shape and getting ready to leave in August....Europe is always fun. To get away and make some money to play the game of basketball that I love. It's going to be a challenge for me coming off this injury, just to get back in shape and stuff. But I've been working hard in the off-season so I am looking forward to the challenge."

But before he heads across the pond, Mike is fulfilling one more lifelong goal this week: the completion of his 2nd Annual Youth Basketball Camp.
