Four-year-old tours college for the first time

4-year-old Alexa Mosley toured the JWCC campus in Quincy

Do you remember how old you were when you went on your first college visit? Sixteen? Maybe fourteen? Chances are, Alexa Mosley has you beat.

The four-year-old and her family visited John Wood Community College on Wednesday. Alexa had a chance to tour the school library, see the auditorium, and get a sneak peek at a real college classroom.

She even had the opportunity to meet and speak with the college president, Dr. John Letts.

Alexa says she started thinking about college after watching the movie 'Toy Story 3'. The character Andy goes to college in the movie, so she wanted to do the same thing.

Dr. Letts says he was thrilled when he learned Alexa wanted to visit the college.

"First of all, I was flattered that she thought about John Wood. So we said 'bring her out' - it would be a good thing for her and fun to do. I know her parents, and she's just a sweet little gal," he said.

Alexa says her favorite school subject is art, and that she hopes to be a ballet teacher when she grows up.

Her visit inspired the college to create a 'Kids on Campus' day.

The day will allow kids in grade school to learn about future careers and tour the college. It will be held on September 19th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the 48th street campus. For more information about the event, contact Rachel Buhr at (217) 641-4337.
