The April 4, 2017 consolidated election will include four candidates vying for three seats on the John Wood Community College Board of Trustees. The three seats are for full, six-year terms.

The names of the candidates will appear on the ballot based on the order in which petitions were filed. The order of candidates on the ballot will be as follows: Incumbent Larry Fischer of Quincy, incumbent Diane Ary of Quincy, and write-in candidate challengers Robert Rhea of Camp Point and Orville Jones Jr. of Quincy.

Trustees whose terms are set to expire are Ary, Fischer and Reggie Coleman. Coleman is not seeking re-election.

Fischer retired in 2008 as vice president of instruction at John Wood Community College. Ary is senior manager of information technology for Archer Daniels Midland in Quincy. Robert Rhea is a member of Western Farm Business Management field staff in Camp Point and provides accounting, tax and consulting. Orville Jones, Jr. is senior pastor for First Baptist Church in Quincy.

Trustees serving current terms include Jim Gay of Pittsfield, Jerry Hagmeier of Quincy, Randy Sims of Liberty and Don Hess of Quincy.

The JWCC Board consists of seven trustees elected at-large from Illinois Community College District 539, which includes all of Adams, Brown and Pike counties, and portions of Hancock, Calhoun, Schuyler, Morgan, Scott and Cass counties.

The election is handled by the county clerk of each county and polling places are the same as for other races in the April 4 election. JWCC trustees elected April 4 will be seated soon after the election results are canvassed from the county clerks.

A student trustee, who casts an advisory vote, also sits on the Board and is selected in March by the student body.
