Keokuk lost one of it's own Saturday night.
Former Mayor David Gudgel passed away after a long fight with cancer.
Current Mayor Tom Marion said Gudgel was taken to ICU on Friday for a respiratory problem.
He said Gudgel was a great friend of his.
Funeral arrangements will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. Visitation will be Thursday followed by funeral services on Friday.
Mayor Marion says the city will close its offices on those day, so employees can attend.
Gudgel served as mayor from 2001 to 2009.
Some of his accomplishments include the addition of the Keokuk Veteran's Memorial, and the Rand Park Pavilion.
According to Tri-States Radio, the cause of death is unknown at this time, but Gudgel was diagnosed with cancer in 2005.
