The food bank serves 145 agencies in 21 central Illinois counties.
This new building will just about triple the space for the food bank.
Submitted photos show the walls are up and the freezer floor is in.
Kaleigh Friend with the Central Illinois Food Bank says having a bigger freezer is going to be a focal point for the new building.
"Just in the the past year alone, we've had to divert at least a million pounds of food to other regional food banks because we didn't have the space for it. A lot of the donations we're seeing are fresh or frozen in nature. That's kind of a shift, so we need to be better prepared to handle that," Kaleigh Friend with Central Illinois Foodbank said.
Hopes are to have the new property up and going by August of this year.
It will almost triple the size of the current location, and if need be, there is room to grow.
