First black priest featured on Quincy tour

You can now trace the steps of the nation's first black priest.

Father Augustus Tolton was a Quincy native and now a candidate for Catholic sainthood after overcoming obstacles to become the first African-American priest in the country.

Now the Quincy Area Convention and Visitors Bureau plans to introduce a Tolton driving tour.

The tour will take visitors to five locations throughout the city, including his gravesite and St. Peter's Church.

Information is available for visitors in the coming weeks at the Quincy Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in the Villa Katherine or on their website. Click here to read more.

The Canonization process is underway to deem Tolton a saint. Click here to read about what's needed to make that happen.
