Firefighters respond to barn fire near Canton

It's been a busy weekend for Canton firefighters.

The department responded to its third fire in 48 hours Sunday evening.

A barn containing a tractor was engulfed in flames. The Press-News Journal reports several round hay bales next to the barn were also burning.

The fire began around 4:45 p.m. at 1106 Marks Drive. LaGrange firefighters also responded.

Owners Jim and Ginny Oliver told the Journal they had burned brush earlier in the afternoon but those fires were several feet away from the barn.

At this time the fire is not believed to be of a suspicious nature.

Several members of the Canton Fire Department, including Chief Joe LaCount, were at the scene of the town's previous fire near the Lewis Street Playhouse cleaning the streets when the call came in.

Police are investigating that fire as arson but have not made any arrests. However, an abandoned house fire at 712 Lewis St. Friday evening led to the arrests of two juveniles. Police are looking at a possible connection between the two.
