Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a building owned by Keokuk Steel Castings on Royal Road in Keokuk at around 12:57 p.m.
They were on the scene for an hour.
A forklift was carrying molten metal and had a spill. That spill came into contact with a petroleum-based product used in the casting process, starting a minor fire outside the building.
Keokuk Steel Castings was never shut down and no workers were sent home. There were no injuries reported.
Employees at Keokuk Steel Casting's main office would not confirm any details about the fire.
KHQA viewers on Facebook said thick black smoke could be seen from Kahoka.
