Fire in downtown Macon leaves one dead

The Macon Police Department now reports that Lawrence L. Flax, Jr., 41, of Macon, was found deceased after fire personnel battled a structure fire in downtown area Wednesday morning.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at Boone County Medical Examiner's Office for the victim.

Authorities tell our sister station KTVO in Kirksville, Mo. the Macon Police and Fire Departments were called to the 100 block of North Rollins in downtown Macon just before 7 a.m. where there was a fire in an upstairs apartment. When firemen entered the apartment, they found Flax.

The Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office assisted in the investigation and according to Chief Steve Olinger, they are still looking into the cause of the fire.
