Filing for an extension before it's too late
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 23:08:25 GMT —
You're running low on time if you haven't filed your taxes yet but you still have options.
You can file for an extension
ut that doesn't mean you do not have to pay what you owe.
The extension just gives you more time to gather needed information. You must have the extension filed no later than Monday, April 15.
"A lot of people would be better off and pay less tax if they just file the actual tax return instead of the extension form. If you are going to have a balance due, and you cannot afford to pay it, file the return instead of the extension, and start making the paying arrangements in the next few weeks," said owner of Liberty Tax Service Carrie Bareis.
Filing for an extension gives you until October 15 to file your taxes.
