Federal bank robbery suspect gets court date

A man charged in a string of bank robberies, including one in Quincy, made an appearance in federal court today in Urbana.

Willie Franklin is is charged in the December 26 robbery of First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust.

Franklin is also accused of robberies in Kankakee, Wentzville, Mt. Vernon, Iowa City, Manteno, Morton and Peoria.

He was taken in to custody by federal authorities in Tampa, Fla. earlier in January. A federal judge today ordered him to remain in federal custody pending a July 29 status hearing.
