Father charged with son's murder in Pike County, Mo.
A St. Louis-area man accused of shooting and killing his 22-year-old son was in court in Pike County, Mo. today.
Michael Lee Phillips, 45, of St. John, Mo., is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
He is charged with shooting his son Jeff Chisholm near Bowling Green during a family getaway.
Phillips was in court Wednesday for arraignment. The hearing was postponed until Sept. 11 as Phillips said he intends to hire his own attorney to represent him throughout the proceedings.
The shooting stemmed from an argument between Chisholm and Phillips, the Pike County Sheriff's Office said in a statement released Monday morning.
The incident took place on Pike 52, a county road off of U.S. 61 between New London and Bowling Green.
Chisholm was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.
Pike County, Mo. Sheriff Stephen Korte said that Chisholm had been fighting with his father and other family members who were traveling as part of a weekend getaway.
Phillips remains in the Pike County Jail on $200,000 bond.
