A faith based preschool is getting ready to open its doors in Pittsfield.

The First Christian Church of Pittsfield has created a program called Children First.

The program will provide appropriate activities for kids ages 3- to 5-years-old.

The preschool will be housed at the church's administration building at 201. N. Mississippi in Pittsfield.

Program Director Heather Dodd says that the goal is to provide a nurturing Christian environment for the kids that will also help them develop a strong sense of self-worth and self-discipline.

She says that the first three years are the most important when it comes to instilling values in kids.

"It gives them those morals to grow on," program director Heather Dodd said. "It really, attachments are formed then and it's very important for those proper attachments to form, for kids to really get to experience these social situations that provide further growth."

Heather Dodd says that the programs are filling up quickly.

If you would like to know more, there is an open house Thursday, August 1 from 5-7 p.m. at the church administration building.

If you would like more information you can contact Heather at 217-285-4129.

You can also e-mail the program at childrenfirst@fccpittsfield.org.

There are also plans to add a daycare center in January.
