Ex-judge facing federal drug charges heads to court

A former southwestern Illinois judge at the center of a courthouse drug scandal is expected to plead guilty today to federal heroin and drug charges.

A former southwestern Illinois judge at the center of a courthouse drug scandal is expected to plead guilty Friday to federal heroin and drug charges.

Former St. Clair County Circuit Judge Michael Cook of Belleville is accused of heroin possession and having a gun while using drugs.

He's already resigned as a judge.

Cook was arrested after a friend, longtime prosecutor-turned-judge Joe Christ, died of a cocaine overdose while with Cook at his family's hunting cabin.
