EPA allows Ursa lagoon pumping

Ursa, Il - We received calls from viewers who wanted to know why pipes linked Ursa TMs village lagoon to a nearby creek. We asked the questions you wanted answers to for this KHQA Factfinder report.

We talked with Terry Homan with the Village of Ursa. He says heavy rains this year raised levels at the village lagoon and weakened the levee holding the village TMs sewer water.

In order to prevent a levee breach, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency granted the village a temporary permit to allow crews to pump a limited amount of treated sewer water into the nearby Ursa Creek.

The village is required to test the water several times a week to monitor the status of the creek.
