The Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corps believe they have found the body of George Schmitt, a Quincy resident who went missing more than a week ago.
Saturday morning, crews recovered a body from the Mississippi River about 4.5 miles south of Lock and Dam 21, on the Illinois side of the river.
Officials have continued searching the waters for Schmitt who went missing during the evening hours of May 4, 2011. He was last seen traveling north bound up river to his river camp.
An autopsy will be performed in Springfield Monday to make certain of the man's identity.
The Adams County Sheriff's Department and the Emergency Volunteer Corps helped in the search for Schmitt.
