The Quincy Police Department is spreading the word of another phone scam.
Authorities say someone contacted a local elderly couple posing as their grandson.
The couple said the scammer knew the grandson's first name, his cell phone number and the grandfather's middle name.
The caller also appeared to be calling from the grandson's cell phone number.
The scammer claimed to have been in an accident and asked the couple to wire $1,000 to Lima, Peru.
When the couple went to wire money at a local County Market, the clerk told them it was a scam.
QPD says the scammer used a cell phone app to disguise the number.
