Three people were seriously injured in a car crash Wednesday evening in Hancock County.
According to the Illinois State Police, two vehicles collided on U.S. Route 136 at County Road 1700 East shortly before 6 p.m.
Thirty-year-old Melissa Bruner of Keokuk was taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy with serious injuries.
Her passenger, a 6-year-old child, was taken to Memorial Hospital in Carthage with serious injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, 47-year-old Suzan Heimer of Carthage, was also seriously injured and taken to Memorial Hospital.
Bruner was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to obey a stop sign.
According to the crash report, Bruner was traveling northbound on County Road 1700 East. She then failed to stop at a posted stop sign while approaching U.S. Route 136.
Bruner then drove into the westbound lane of U.S. 136 and hit Heimer's vehicle in the passenger side.
Heimer's SUV slid off the road, flipped onto its roof and came to rest in a ditch. Bruner's vehicle came to rest in the roadway.
Both vehicles were totaled.
