Drug charges dropped against Fort Madison sex shop owner

Authorities dropped a number of charges against a Fort Madison sex shop owner accused of selling the synthetic drug known as bath salts.

Jason Allen Eaves, 40, of 3461 175th St. in Fort Madison, Iowa, was charged in April with money laundering and ongoing criminal conduct. Those charges have been dropped.

Eaves, who owns The Pleasure Factor, was arrested in an investigation where a search warrant was served at a business in rural Fort Madison, the Lee County Narcotics Task Force said.

Lee County District Attorney Michael Short said Thursday that substances that originally yielded positive results in field tests came back negative during lab testing.

â??We've had varying results in the batches of the same products,â?? he said. â??Our synthetic drug law did not cover the substances contained in the pills so we had to dismiss some of the charges.â??

Eaves still faces charges of tax stamp violations, which is a charge related to taxes on controlled substances. The charge is a fourth-degree felony.

Eaves' business was seized as part of the investigation, but Short said the business was returned once the charges were dropped.

Attempts to reach Eaves Thursday were unsuccessful.
