Driver said he fell asleep, but police say alcohol played part in semi crash

A Roodhouse, Illinois man is in jail after he drove a semi off the roadway while under the influence, Illinois State Police said.
Gary L. Lemons, 60, is charged with DUI alcohol, illegal transportation of an alcoholic beverage, improper lane usage, driving while fatigued (motor carrier safety violation), operation of CMV (commercial motor vehicle) while under the influence of an intoxicating beverage and unlawful possession of alcohol in a CMV.
The Pike Co. Sheriff's Department and the Pike County Ambulance Hull-Kinderhook-New Canton Fire Department responded to the crash at 10:52 p.m. on Monday on westbound I-72 near milepost 12 near Hull, Illinois.
According to police records, Lemons was driving a semi when he drove off the roadway into a wooded area.
Lemons told police he fell asleep while driving.
