      Downtown Quincy home catches fire

      Two cats suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene.

      Investigators have determined a likely cause of Thursday's house fire at 1021 S. 5th Street in Quincy.

      According to the Quincy Fire Department, a friend of the family was mowing the lawn when the gas can he was using tipped over.

      Investigators believe gas trickled down the back porch into the basement.

      The fire started when the gas came into contact with the pilot light of the home's water heater.

      A house fire was reported at 1:43 p.m. at 1021 South 5th Street in Quincy.

      The house and porch were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the location.

      Clean up is now underway.

      Occupants were evacuated from the home.

      One woman was taken to Blessing Hospital and treated for anxiety.

      The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
