Wikipedia describes Indian yoga teacher Tirumalai Krishnamacharya as the father of modern yoga.
If that is true, then Tri-State residents have a chance to take yoga from the granddaughter of modern yoga.
Mekhala Desikachar is taking what her grandfather and father taught her and teaching it to others through yoga classes at Cheryl Loatsch Studio .
Her grandfather was the teacher of the world's three most famous yoga legends -- BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois and TKV Desikachar. The latter is Mekhala's father.
Her yoga classes will teach postures coordinated with breathing and breath regulation.
Participants also will learn how to calm the mind and to develop a healthy body.
The classes are from 10:15 to 11 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays and from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays now through April 16. Cost is $75.
