A verdict could come Tuesday in the court martial of Ursa native and Soldier Brent Burke.

The Fort Campbell soldier is charged with murdering his estranged wife Tracy Burke and her former mother-in-law in 2007.

According to the

Elizabethtown News Enterprise

, the defense's case and closing arguments were presented Monday.

The trial continued this weekend as Burke's own son and stepson testified against him. However last week forensic experts testified they could find no DNA evidence linking the Fort Campbell soldier to the scene of the shooting.

The military panel begins deliberations Tuesday.

That panel only needs 3 of 5 panel members to agree on the verdict.

If a conviction is returned, the court will move right to sentencing.

The Army began court martial proceedings after four mistrials in civilian court.

Original Story: May 3 at 9 a.m.

Court martial proceedings began this week in Kentucky for an Ursa native accused of killing two women.

Army Staff Sergeant Brent Burke is accused of killing his ex-wife, Tracy, and her former mother-in-law in September 2007.

According to the

News-Enterprise of Hardin County

, Wednesday Kentucky State Police detectives took the stand describing the scene of the crime.

Also testifying yesterday was a man on the cleaning crew who went over the scene the day after the investigation at the home was finished. He testified he found additional shell casings the day after evidence was logged.

You'll recall criminal charges against Burke in civilian court were dropped last year after four mistrials. But then the army pressed charges under military law.

If convicted, Burke faces up to life in prison.
