Community Foundation gets $1 million gift

A few days after Christmas the Community Foundation of the Quincy Area received a very large gift.

When Lee Lindsay passed away in October she left the community foundation a $1 million endowment.

Her family announced the gift Wedensday, December 29th.

It will become a part of the Arthur O. and Lela B. Lindsay Fund, which she established to give back to the community she loved.

Executive Director Jill Arnold Blickhan says this is the largest one-time donation the foundation has ever received.

"Mrs. Lindsay wanted to make sure that the community was well taken care of. The magnitude of this gift means that there will be wonderful grants going out for generations to come to support the community she loved," Arnold Blickhan said. "The fund was set up to support humanities and education, but is not strictly limited to that. There is an advisor to the fund and the advisor will make recommendations as to what types of grants and where the grants will go."

Blickhan says the community foundation will be working closely with the advisor and let them know what kind of grants the community needs.
