Committee to examine Westview Golf Course's future

Quincy park board meets in new office on Bonansinga Drive.

The Quincy Park District Board of Commissioners plan to take its time examining the future of Westview Golf Course in Quincy.

The park board met for the first time in its new building on Bonansinga Drive Wednesday night.

On the agenda -- results of a public survey surrounding the Westview expansion proposal.

Board President John Frankenhoff announced that a committee will be created to dig deeper into the Westview plans.

Tom Ernst will chair that committee.

Any possible changes will be brought before the full board for discussion and a vote.

"With golf in decline in general, the rounds are down so that hurts our revenue," Frankenhoff said. "We're trying to hold the line on expenses. We can't let that get out of hand."

The park district will spend Thursday and Friday moving most of its property out of the Emerson Community Center and into its new office building.

Mike Bruns told the board that pool attendance has been the worst its been in the park district's history so far, but the numbers are increasing now that the weather has gotten warmer and dryer.

In other news, the president of the Women's City Club announced that eight men recently have joined the club.
