Clayton man pleads guilty to fraud charges

John Gotway

A Clayton man pleaded guilty to a criminal charge after he tried to convince a man to burn down his restaurant.

John Gotway, 70, appeared in court Thursday.

He was arrested in December after authorities say he tried to commit insurance fraud.

The Adams County Sheriff's office says he was planning to pay another person to burn down his restaurant, John's Café, in Clayton.

The court dropped an insurance fraud charge as part of the deal, according to court records.

Sentencing is scheduled in May.
