You might notice some new fire hydrants throughout the City of Quincy.

Monday night, the Quincy City Council approved a low bid of $9000 from H.D. Supply Waterworks in Washington, Illinois for five new fire hydrants.

The council also heard and answered questions from a local resident about the Newcomb Hotel.

City Planner Chuck Bevelheimer said BSB Development Inc. out of Spring Grove, Illinois is expected to begin cleaning up the site at 4th and Maine in mid February.

He then hopes to market the site aggressively.

"We'll be working with the Great River Economic Development Foundation and HBD to market that site and try to get some interested parties to redevelop the property," Bevelheimer said. "We would love to see a two- or three-story property on the corner."

Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore invited everyone to attend the city's budget retreat this Saturday.

It will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Town and Country Inn and Suites.
