City Council amends Fix or Flatten program

The Quincy City Council is hoping to avoid any more confusion with the city's fix or flatten program.

Council members amended the unsafe property ordinance to require that a list of fix-or-flatten properties and estimated costs come to the council early in the fiscal year.

You'll recall the program was pulled earlier this year after council members didn't follow through with a court order to fix up the former paper box building.

The building had fallen into disrepair and had become a safety hazard. Since then the program has been reinstated.

Monday night aldermen also cleared the way for a $370 thousand dollar federal grant to buy electric generators at the city's water plant and wastewater treatment plant.
