Citation issued in Hannibal bobcat harboring

A man was cited Friday after Hannibal police seized a bobcat from the cab of a pickup.
A city animal control officer was investigating an animal neglect call about 8 a.m. when he discovered the bobcat in the truck parked in the 2700 block of Market Street.
The Missouri Department of Conservation was contacted and a local agent seized the animal.
The man investigatiors believe was harboring the wildcat was issued a citation.
â??Animal control officers frequently receive calls concerning wild animals such as raccoons, coyotes and bats,â?? Hannibal Police Chief Lyndell Davis said. â??Occasionally they receive calls about sightings of wild cats, but they have never encountered one up close.â??
In addition to being a state law violation, Hannibal also has an ordinance prohibiting possession of wild animals.
Wildlife conservation officer Donald Clever said he was not at liberty to release the name of the man cited. He was also not allowed to discuss the bobcat's fate.
