Chicagoan pleads not guilty to Quincy killing

An October trial is scheduled for a Chicagoan who has pleaded not guilty in the shooting death of a man in the Mississippi River city of Quincy.

Twenty-eight-year-old Phillip Diaz Jr. entered the plea Wednesday in Adams County to a first-degree murder.

Diaz is accused in the May 23 shooting of Ian Barksdale outside a Quincy restaurant, after the two men had an encounter at a nightclub where Barksdale worked.

Federal marshals arrested Diaz two weeks later in Chicago.

Two other men are accused of obstructing justice for having assisted Diaz in being a fugitive.

Diaz is jailed in Quincy on $1 million bond.
