Celebrate smart this New Year's Eve

"Call a friend, call a cab, stay at a friends house, but you always have an alternative."

Expect police to be out in full force for the New Year's holiday.

They'll be looking for drunk drivers and any other offenders.

Police remind you to obey all the laws, including speed limits and wearing your seat belt.

Above all, if you're going to celebrate, just do it safely.

"The one message we put out is you always have an alternative. If it's a designated driver, please designate that driver before you start consuming alcohol," Trooper Mike Kindhart with the Illinois State Police said.

"We ask designated drivers to remain steadfast and recognize that people under the influence of alcohol are not making good judgment calls. We ask that they make sure their friends and family get home safely," Sgt. Brent Bernhardt with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

"Call a friend, call a cab, stay at a friends house, but you always have an alternative," he said.

If you need emergency help anytime in Missouri, you can dial *55 on your cell phone to be connected with the state police.

As always, you can call 911 where ever you are.
