Jacksonville area residents will soon have a new representative.
Jacksonville native C.D. Davidsmeyer was selected Sunday to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Rep. Jim Watson.
Watson announced his resignation in November after 11 years of service. He plans to become the executive director for the Illinois Petroleum Council.
Davidsmeyer is Vice President and operations manager at IRC, Inc. a longtime family owned business in Jacksonville.
Morgan County Republican Chair Steve Hardin said there were many good candidates and there was a thorough review and discussion.
??I am pleased that C.D. was chosen. We have had the good fortune to have had outstanding State Representatives such as Rep. Watson for the past 11 years and Rep. Ryder for his 18 years. C.D. has the qualifications and potential to continue this tradition.??
This week, Davidsmeyer will be officially sworn in to fill the remainder of the term of the 97th District in the current 97th General Assembly which will include session days scheduled for Jan. 3 to 8.
On Jan. 9, he will be sworn in for a two-year term for the new 100th District of the new 98th General Assembly.
