Cause of death released in Quincy fatal thrift store crash

The driver was southbound on 8th Street when the pickup crashed through a fence on the rear of the property that also contains the Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.

The man who died after his car struck a building at 8th and Adams streets had alcohol in his blood stream at the time of impact, the Adams County coroner said.

Matthew Fulmer, 30, of 1033 Ohio St. died shortly after 4 p.m. on Aug. 21.

An autopsy revealed that a skull fracture killed Fulmer before a fire engulfed and destroyed the Crossing Thrift Shop and numerous apartments, coroner Jim Keller said.

Witnesses told investigators that they saw Fulmer speeding south on 8th Street before the truck crashed through the fence at the Blessed Sacrament School playground, struck a tree and became airborne. The truck landed in the building and caught fire.

Keller would not release Fulmer's blood-alcohol level contained in the autopsy report.
