Carnival stabbing leads to Beardstown man in custody

The Schuyler County Sheriff's department has a suspect in custody after a fight resulting in a death earlier this week.

According to Sheriff Don Schieferdecker, deputies were called to the sleeping quarters of the Schuyler County Fairgrounds at 12:31 a.m. on July 2nd. Reports said there was a man stabbed at the carnival.

21 year old Jared M. Staake, of Beardstown, is in custody on a charge of second degree murder. According to the sheriff's statement, the suspect stabbed 33-year-old Michael Box during a fight outside of the Schuyler County Fairgrounds sleeping quarters. Staake was picked up by the sheriff on July 5 at Staake's residence.

According to reports, Box was stabbed on his left side from the fight, and later was pronounced dead by Schuyler County Coroner Dennis Lane. He was pronounced upon arrival. Interviews and further investigations led to Staake's arrest.

Staake faces charges involving 2nd Degree Murder. He was processed and lodged in the Schuyler County Jail with a bail set at $500,000.

Sheriff Schieferdecker said the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a parole violation no bond warrant on Staake.

According to the sheriff, Box was an employee of the Fox Carnival Circuit and was from Dyersburg, Tenn.
