Burlington students suspended for violent lyrics

A principal says two middle school students in Burlington were suspended for writing song lyrics in class that included references to gangs and killing people.
The Hawk Eye reports police were sent to Aldo Leopold Middle School April 7th after a teacher discovered two 13-year-old students were writing a rap song. A police report states that in the lyrics, the boys referred to themselves as gang members and referenced killing people.
The boys were supposed to be writing a paper.
Police didn't take any action because a crime hadn't been committed.
Principal Brian Gravel says the boys were suspended because their writings included "very inappropriate things." He wouldn't say how long they were suspended.
Gravel says writing music is fine "but there was a line that was crossed here."
