Burlington students in custody after bullying video goes viral

Four Burlington teenagers who police say assaulted another teenager, recorded it, and posted it online are now in custody.

Four Burlington students who police say assaulted another teenager in Perkins Park, recorded it, and posted it online will stay in custody for at least another week.

Authorities say the three 13-year-old boys in the video face serious assault and disorderly conduct charges. They're accused of punching, kicking, taunting and knocking down an unidentified boy.

A 12-year-old girl faces one charge of disorderly conduct for allegedly recording the incident.

Burlington School District spokesman Derek Baker said the video was posted on Sunday and the district became aware of it Monday.

He says the students were immediately identified and police were immediately notified.

The three boys were suspended for two days. Baker says he was unaware of the 12-year-old girl's punishment.

He did note that she was involved in another dispute with another child the day before.

Another court hearing will be held next week to see if the students should remain in custody.
