Burlington plant fire likely caused by machine spark
At 4:28 p.m. Friday, the Burlington Fire Department was called to the Federal Mogul plant at 3009 Sylvania Drive in Burlington for a fire in the metal-working section of the plant.
Firefighters arrived within 5 minutes to find flames visible from the roof and the employees evacuating the building.
Employees discovered the fire and attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher.
Firefighters were able to locate and contain the fire to a ventilation fan and shaft in the roof above the extruder machine area of the plant.
Damage was contained to the fan, shaft and the immediate area surrounding the shaft.
The fire is considered accidental and most likely caused by a spark from one of the extruder machines.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 6:15 p.m.
Burlington firefighters were assisted by 9 West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid. Superior Ambulance was also called to assist. There were no injuries.
