Burlington husband accused of murdering wife

Burlington police have arrested a husband for killing his wife last August.

Chico Marill Newman faces first degree murder charges in the shooting death of his wife, 32-year-old Crystal Newman.

On August 9, 2012 Crystal Marie Newman, age 32, was found dead in her home located 800 S. 8th Street in Burlington, Iowa as a result of a single gunshot wound to the head. Following a lengthy investigation by the Burlington Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, evidence indicated that Ms. Newmanâ??s death was a homicide.

The Des Moines County Attorneyâ??s Office issued an arrest warrant for Murder in the 1st Degree, a Class A felony, against Chico Marill Newman, age 38, Crystal Newmanâ??s husband. Murder in the 1st Degree is punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The United States Marshal Service arrested Chico Newman Monday night at the Motel 6 located near the Quad City International Airport in Moline, Illinois.

Chico Newman is being held at the Rock Island County Correctional Center on $1,000,000 cash only bond.

Newman will await extradition to the State of Iowa to face the Murder in the 1st Degree Charge.
