Boy became a lifesaver when he witnessed brutal attack
Jonathan McMichael, 15, of Wever, Iowa is being recognized as one of Iowa's 2012 Lifesaving Award Honorees Friday at the Iowa State Fair.
Iowa Governor Terry E. Branstad will extend the Outstanding Service Award to McMichael for his courageous act in an attempt to save an individual who was in danger of losing her life.
McMichael jumped into action on July 31, 2011 when Ms. Dianna Pollpeter was attacked with a knife in front of her home.
Pollpeter was preparing to take a friend to the airport when that friend began behaving strangely and making threats towards her.
McMichael witnessed Pollpeter's neck being cut with a kitchen knife by the attacker, but managed to come to her aid. He put himself between the two in an effort to protect Pollpeter and she was then able to escape back into the house.
