UPDATED: June 8 at 9 a.m .

Tuesday night the Bowling Green School Board decided to keep Darrin Powell as its interim Superintendent.

Powell was the Bowling Green High School Principal.

The board will continue to search for a replacement. That search may not begin in earnest until December.

The Bowling Green R-1 school board has placed it's Superintendent on paid leave of absence.

The board voted to place Michael Gray on paid leave as of April 20, 2011.

School Board Vice President Bob Shaw told KHQA the absence is "to review certain performance issues which are best considered in the Superintendent's absence."

The board appointed Darrin Powell to carry out the duties of the Superintendent on an interim basis.

Brad Kurz, current Assistant Principal, will act as High School Principal.

Matt Chance will carry out duties of Athletic Director and interim High School Assistant Principal.

The board issued a statement that reads, "As always, we will remain focused on the education of our children."

An attorney for the school board told KHQA at no time was there any impropriety involved in the decision to put Gray on leave, but it was an issue of a "deteriorating working relationship".

Gray has accepted the Superintendent position in Montgomery County for the 2011-2012 school year.

His contract with Bowling Green R-1 ends June 30th.
