Body identified in suspicious motel death

A man detained in the back of a squad car.

Marion Co. Coroner Darrell McCoy has released the name of the body found at a Hannibal motel.

No foul play is suspected in the death of Howard Miller of Hannibal.

The 63-year-old was found deceased Wednesday at around 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Best Way Inn and his body was removed around 9 a.m. James O'Donnell Funeral Home removed the body, according to a report from the scene.

Police responded to the motel at 612 Mark Twain Ave and at least five police cars were at the scene as officers combed the area for evidence.

The Hannibal Police Department has not released any information about the incident although police detained one man for questioning.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. and detectives began an investigation.

A cause of death will not be determined until lab results and toxicology testing is concluded, which may take several weeks.

Further information will be released when appropriate.
