Blessing Health Systems wants to focus on staying healthy, rather than getting healthy once you are already sick.
That is why they are offering 10 free health screenings this Saturday in the gym at the Kroc Center from 9 a.m. till noon.
"What you're going to be able to do is get some tests you normally may not get until you were ill. You're going to get these tests, and you're going to find out if there's something you need to be doing now to protect yourself from getting sick in the future," said Blessing Spokesperson Steve Felde.
The Ankle-Brachial Index does require pre-registering with the Blessing Wound Center at 217-228-5535.
ABI checks for problems with the arteries in your legs or arms and is for patients who are 55 or older.
Booths and health professionals will be available throughout the day to provide information on how to stay healthy.
"People don't think much about health care until they're sick and we don't want it to be that way, we want to keep people well. One way to do that is to have this event where people just come, talk to a variety of different people, and have these free health screenings," said Felde.
Those using multiple prescriptions are encouraged to bring them along.
Pharmacists will be available through the "Bag it and Drag it" campaign to make sure those medications are compatible.
The free health clinic will also feature the world's largest inflatable heart.
Visitors can walk through the heart and learn how it can be affected by heart disease.
Last year 700 plus participants received more than 1,300 health screenings at Wellness Day.
13 to 65 percent of those screenings came back abnormal.
