Blandinsville family loses home to fire on Christmas Day

A Blandinsville family is counting their blessings Wednesday after losing their home to a fire Christmas night.

Mike Powell and his two girls, ages 5 and 7, escaped the home unharmed, but lost everything inside the home.

The Blandinsville-Hire Fire Protection District responded to the fire northeast of Blandinsville just before 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters put in a call to Good Hope-Sciota and the La Harpe Fire Protection District for mutual aid. In all, 30 firefighters helped contain the fire.

The house is considered a total loss and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

The American Red Cross also responded to the scene to assist the Powell Family. A family friends told KHQA the Powells are in need of clothes at this time.

Mike wears 2XL shirts, 36x30 jeans, and 9 1/2 shoes. His 2 daughters wear sizes 6 and 7 in clothes and 12 and 3 in shoes.
