We now have an update for you on the newborn baby found inside a Jacksonville dumpster over the weekend.

Lieutenant Rodney Cox with the Jacksonville Police Department tells KHQA that the baby is doing really well.

Lt. Cox also said Tuesday that fewer leads are coming in now and the continuing investigation has slowed.

Authorities are not going to identify the race or sex of the baby, but Jacksonville PD said doctors told police the baby was less than 12 hours old.

The baby was transported to Passavant Area Hospital for treatment Saturday after being found in the 300 block of W. Lafayette Ave.

The baby is in the custody of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Once the baby is released from the hospital, the baby will be placed in foster care.

If you have any information that can help investigators, you're asked to contact the Jacksonville Police Department at 217-479-4630.
