Auditor's Report: Some Iowa agencies not following laws
Sun, 18 Aug 2013 13:00:00 GMT —
A state auditor's report on the Iowa Department of Public Health criticizes the agency for failing to inspect funeral homes and other places where bodies are prepared for burial as required by state law.
It's one of several shortcomings auditors are pointing out in annual audits of state agencies.
State Auditor Mary Mosiman released audits Wednesday on the departments of administrative services, agriculture, the blind, inspections and appeals, justice, and public health.
In the public health report the auditors say the agency is violating a state law by failing to inspect places where dead human bodies are prepared or held for burial, entombment or cremation.
The department says its Board of Mortuary Science has discussed the issue and is considering options.
A health department spokeswoman did not immediately provide comment.
