Arrest made in McDonough County construction thefts

A Beardstown man is behind bars after he was arrested on charges related to the theft of 13 batteries from a Macomb construction site.

James W. Waters, 42, was arrested at his home Sunday on a warrant charging him with theft and criminal damage to property over $500.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the Dec. 30 discovery that 13 batteries were stolen from construction equipment parked at the intersection of Highway 136 and 336 west of Macomb. The person cut cables on the batteries that are valued at about $500 apiece.

Waters remains in the McDonough County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

McDonough County Sheriff Rick VanBrooker said that at least one more arrest is expected in the ongoing investigation.
